SCUBA diving wetsuits are designed to handle atmospheric underwater pressure. Neoprene can collapse under pressure therefore SCUBA diving wetsuits are made of neoprenes designed to handle the compression of underwater diving. Snorklers or shallow water divers (less than 30 feet) often choose wetsuits that cross over into multiple sports that do not require compression resistance.
Divers and snorkelers looking for protection and additional warmth can choose from a variety of neoprene boots, gloves, and hoods. These wetsuit accessories provide additional warmth. Additional accessories are available such as skinsuits for donning and thermal protection. Neoprene vests, neoprene shirts, pants and hooded vests are versatile ways to add additional warmth. On the surface, neoprene jackets are great options when being out of the water for wind breakers and thermal protection.
Springsuits for diving come in a variety of styles. Choose from back zip springsuits, front zip, long sleeve springsuits, and short sleeve springsuits. The most common thicknesses for diving springsuits are 2mm and 3mm thicknesses. The cost of a diving springsuit is determine by materials and features. The stretchier the springsuit the more it costs. High stretch neoprenes require higher quality laminations that include spandex and nylon in order to maximize the stretch of the high grade super stretch neoprenes.
Men's Sleeveless long johns are similar to the female counterpart the women's sleeveless long jane. These suits are full length with sleeveless arms. They can be worn independently or with a neoprene jacket on top. The Jackets are long sleeve with a zipper running down the front of the wetsuit jackets. Long Johns and Janes and Jackets come in a variety of thicknesses. These suits come in 3mm, 5mm and 7mm. If you are SCUBA diving with these type of wetsuit where the two suits overlap, you will get double the thickness in that area. For example a 3mm John and a 3mm Jacket will overlay in the core and give you 6mm of protection. Mixing and matching thicknesses is also common to provide you with the thermal protection you need. So you can wear a 3mm jacket with a 5mm John.
